First semester: an investigation of the painting, sculpture and architecture of France and the Low Countries. Particular emphasis will be given to the diverse characteristics of the Aristocratic and Bourgeois stylistic trends of the period. Second semester: an investigation of the painting, sculpture and architecture of Italy, Spain, Germany and Austria. The relationship of church and state will be a primary theme of the course.
