Broad central themes of Hispanic culture as manifested in creative and historical literature, music, art, film, etc., or in language, such as the history of the Spanish language, translation techniques, or the staging of dramatic works in Spanish. Historical and/or national boundaries are crossed whenever the nature of the topic permits. May be repeated for credit with different content. Taught alternate years. II. X-grade allowed. Pre: 3314 or 3324. (3H,3 Credits).

This is a variable content course that allows students to explore different geographical regions of Spanish America and the ways that authors have used literature to preserve, recreate, revise, subvert, and even contradict their countries' official history. All discussion conducted in Spanish. May be repeated for credit up to three times with different content. Pre: minimum oral proficiency of "Advanced" on the ACTFL scale; at least one prior 4000-level course in Hispanic literature, or consent. (3H,3 Credits).
