Includes a community service component and a parent action plan. Prerequisite: EDUC 406A and formal admission to the Teacher Education Program by the TEB.

    Organization and use of appropriate materials, methods, and techniques as related to the secondary curriculum and programs. Emphasis will be given curriculum planning instructional delivery strategies, motivation, and classroom management techniques. Discussion and assignments will be closely tied to each student's content area. Prerequisite:Employment as a Lateral Entry Teacher, Post-baccalaureate Student, or Admission to the Teacher Education Program as a Special Education Candidate.

    The content specific methods course will provide a comprehensive treatment of methods for teaching science in the secondary school. Candidates will learn strategies for developing pacing guides, unit plans, and lesson plans. Students also will learn strategies for classroom management in the secondary classroom, including those that are particularly relevant for teaching in the content area. During the course, the teacher candidate will teach a limited number of lessons in a secondary school classroom. Also, the candidate will be introduced to formal reflection for professional growth. Prerequisites: Admission to the Teacher Education Program, EDUC 306B, EDUC 406B

  • 2.00 Credits

    During this course, the teacher candidate will engage in service learning in the secondary or K-12 classroom, conducting structured observations, assisting the classroom teacher, and teaching at least five lessons. This field experience will be accompanied by weekly seminars. During seminar, teacher candidate will participate in reflection on the field experience, incorporating all North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards. Prerequisite: EDUC 406B or EDUC 406C.
  • 12.00 Credits

    Full-time supervised teaching in a nearby cooperating elementary school for 15 weeks. Orientation, observation, conferences, seminars, and 110-150 hours of actual classroom teaching are all integral parts of the experience. $ 150 fee. Prerequisites: EDUC 412, EDUC 413, EDUC 441, EDUC 442 , EDUC 443 , EDUC 444 , EDUC 360, and approval of Teacher Education Board.
