This course provides the opportunity for the student to examine the nature and application of theory to research and practice with significant conceptualizations of nursing. An in-depth analysis and evaluation of theory related to phenomena of interest to the discipline is presented.

This course allows the student to examine the scientific foundation, design and techniques associated with qualitative, quantitative, and action research in the development and dissemination of nursing knowledge relative to evidence-based practice. The translation of evidenced based practice research to nursing practice will be a focus in the course. Students will engage in the identification and development of research questions relative to evidence-based practice, selection of research designs, and sampling methodology as part of the course content. 3-0-3

This course is designed to increase the students¿ understanding of evidence based practice research methodology and application. This course focuses on selected advanced multivariate procedures in health research. Topics include multiple regression, analysis of covariance, and factor analysis. Data analysis will utilize the application of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and analysis of published research in the health science fields. 3-0-3

This course examines health care policy and legal issues, including philosophical and analytical perspectives. Strategies to influence change of local, state, national, and global regulations through advocacy and leadership will be explored. Students will evaluate a health care policy of interest and develop a program for change to benefit both patients and providers. 3-0-3

This course focuses on the practice and application of nursing informatics through the examination of concepts, theories, models, and phenomena relevant to the discipline. The use of information systems in the management and support of evidence based practice is a focus in the course. Conceptual and functional components of information management will be discussed along with their application within the healthcare arena. 3-0-3

This course presents management theory, healthcare finance and economics, and management leadership principles as they apply to advance practice nurses practicing in a variety of healthcare settings. This course prepares advance practice nurses at the doctoral level to use advanced management skills necessary to direct patient care, manage healthcare reimbursement, and meet all state and federal laws governing healthcare delivery. 3-0-3

This course encompasses historical perspectives and future directions of higher education and nursing for the 21st century. Emphasis is placed on systems thinking, consideration of complex interactions of a curriculum matrix, and the essential dimensions of a curriculum rooted in community contexts. The scientific and philosophical basis of curriculum for nursing is examined in depth. 3-0-3

This course will present an analysis of epidemiological, biostatistical, environmental, and other appropriate scientific data related to individual, aggregate, and population health. Principles underlying epidemiology as a method of study include presentation of the scope, potentialities, and limitations of this approach. 3-0-3
