Through a developmental approach, course addresses: the integration of theory and research with the practice of teaching children to read and write, including children with special needs; the organization of effective reading and writing instruction; the sociocultural context in which children learn to read and write; culturally, linguistically and developmentally appropriate literacy curricula; assessment and evaluation. Course builds upon indictors of competency established at the lower division (AA) level. For each course objective (core competency) students will demonstrate the indicators established for the bachelor s level. Prerequisite: ECED 235. Corequisite: RDG 418.
