Prerequisites: CSC 253; NSG 212; NSG 218; NSG 279. Corequisites: NSG 325 and FCN 333. This course provides the theoretical and practical basis for fundamental nursing skills. Basic needs of the individual, with focus on the older adult, are examined. The nursing process is used to identify and address the bio-psycho-social, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs of individuals. The themes of environment, humanity, health, and nursing are incorporated into holistic care of patients with acute and chronic alterations in health. (F) 8 credits; 180 clinical hours.

Prerequisites: FCC 213 or PSY 343; NSG 325; NSG 348; FCN 333. This course focuses on the promotion and maintenance of health for individuals of childbearing and childrearing families. The principles of growth and development are integrated. Nursing care of at-risk families and children with special needs is introduced. (S) 8 credits; 180 clinical hours.

Prerequisites: PSY 103; SOC 383; NSG 325; NSG 348. This course examines the development and changing focus of mental health nursing throughout the lifespan. Nursing theory, DSM-IV-TR multiaxial evaluation system, psychobiology, psychopharmacology, the causations of mental illness, and the mind-body-spirit connection will be emphasized. (S) 4 credits; 67.5 clinical hours.

Prerequisites: MAT 143; NSG 325; NSG 348; NSG 378; NSG 389. This course provides the student with an understanding of nursing research and its role in contemporary nursing practice. The student acquires the skills of critical appraisal to become a knowledgeable research consumer. This course will utilize research to make decisions based on the evidence and incorporate research findings into professional nursing practice. (F) 3 credits

Prerequisites: NSG 325; NSG 348; NSG 389; NSG 378; FCN 333. Students in this course study the care of patients with complex, multi-system alterations in health, both physiological and psycho-social. The nursing process is the basis for discussion of holistic care of individuals, families, and groups. Both theory and clinical experiences provide opportunities for the student to examine complex care concepts incorporating the attitudes, knowledge, and critical thinking of the baccalaureate nurse. (F) 8 credits; 180 clinical hours.

Prerequisites: NSG 417; NSG 428; SOC 383. Concepts basic to meeting the health needs of individuals, families, and groups with diverse cultural and social backgrounds in a community and rural setting are presented. The impact of the environment upon the community as the client, and the interrelationship of the health status of the individual and that of the community are explored. Clinical experiences, in a variety of community settings, provide opportunities for students to apply theoretical concepts. (S) 4 credits; 67.5 clinical hours.

Prerequisites: NSG 417; NSG 428. This course studies the leadership character and management roles of the baccalaureate nurse. The leadership role of the nurse includes discussion of the management of staff and care for groups of patients. Critical analysis of the nursing literature is incorporated to examine legal, ethical, and moral aspects of professional nursing practice. Both theory and clinical experiences provide opportunities for the student to examine leadership/management skills, incorporating the attitudes, knowledge, and critical thinking of the baccalaureate nurse. (S) 4 credits; 45 clinical hours.

1.00 - 12.00 Credits
Prerequisites: NSG 325; NSG 348; NSG 389; NSG 378, and by approved application. This clinical internship elective will provide opportunities for students to utilize their nursing skills while assisting others in various settings locally, across the country, and abroad. (SU) 1-12 credits (up to 480 clinical hours)

Corequisite: NSG 482. This capstone course will include extensive clinical experience 1:1 with mentors/preceptors (RNs) who have roles in managing groups of patients. Synthesis of these roles will be in preparation for graduation and graduate study. (S) 3 credits; 135 clinical hours.

A course addressing freshman needs for developing skills and attitudes for survival and success in college. This course will address and promote patriotic growth, citizenship development, leadership skills and intelligent decisions concerning health and wellness. (F)
