CED 224: Science or Nonsense: Critical Thinking for a New Age
3.00 Credits
Missouri Western State University
"Science or Nonsense" is designed to present and discuss new age issues in a critical and scientific environment. These issues will include paranormal, supernatural and mysterious phenomena such as astrology, ghosts, fairies, ESP, psychokinesis, UFO abductions, channeling, dowsing, near-death experiences, prophetic dreams, demon possession, time travel, parapsychology, and creationism among others. With these issues as focal points, students will become familiar with the 31 principles of knowledge, reasoning, logic, and evidence that can be used to enhance problem-solving skills and sharpen judgement. Students will also learn a step-by-step procedure, called the SEARCH formula, which can be applied to some popular, but weird claims. Students will be expected to present a semester project encapsulating their semester studies and showing evidence of understanding and incorporating the techniques discussed in class.

3.00 Credits
Missouri Western State University
This course focuses on how we can learn about and access our purpose and passion as leaders. Success and leadership involves considerably more than holding some kind of formal student office, earning academic honors, or being a star athlete. Rather, success and leadership occurs when learners become concerned about something and work to engage others in bringing about positive change. Taught in an interactive atmosphere, special attention will be given to discovering our strengths, talents, and values then creating ways to put these qualities into action to develop ourselves and serve humanity. The class is a challenging mixture of class work, readings, reflection, and service work. Major course projects will be custom designed to reflect each learners unique learning style.
