CRJS 475: CRIM JUSTICE SYS AROUND WORLD

Lecture 3 hours; 3 credits. Prerequisite: CRJS 215S or 222 or permission of the instructor. The study of criminal justice systems around the world in order to understand how criminal behavior is defined and responded to in various cultures. Cultural differences will be highlighted in order to recognize that definitions of and responses to crimes closely reflect the cultures in which they exist.

Examines a variety of forms of violence from suicide, child abuse, rape and family violence to terrorism, torture, death squads and the death penalty, and hate violence. Explores the circumstances, rationalizations, patterns, explanations and effects on survivors.
