Recognition, pathophysiology, and management of neurologic, endocrinologic, gastroenterologic, renal/urologic, hematologic, environmental, and chronic care patients.

Supervised experience in prehospital care settings. Emphasis on the application of previous course work in the field environment. In addition to regular course work, the following seminars and special workshops are offered occasionally to professionals in the field as continuing education course work: EMT Refresher, EMT-I Refresher, Paramedic Refresher; CPR Provider; CPR Instructor; EMT Instructor.

Examines methods and principles used in distinguishing correct from incorrect reasoning, designed to give the student a working knowledge of the detection of fallacies, the definition of terms, and the recognition of deductive and inductive thought. (D)

Prepares students to collect, transport, handle, and process blood and other specimens for medical laboratory analysis. The curriculum includes classroom instruction and clinical learning experiences. A medical terminology course is recommended, but not required as a pre-requisite. Students who are waiting to enter a health sciences program may want to consider enrollment in this program. (D)

Studies physical laws, principles and associated theories (mechanics, fluid dynamics, optics, electricity and sound); and analyzes the principles of physics from the point of view of their application and relevance to medicine and the human body. Develops modern concepts of matter and energy and how this development is related to the social order of which man is a part. (This course does not satisfy science certification for secondary school teachers. It is not accepted as a major requirement in a natural science field. However, elementary education majors must take this course to meet state certification requirements.) Lecture three hours, lab two hours per week. Pre-requisite: MATH 1003 or ACT Mathematics score of 17 or above. (F, S)
