Students will become familiar with the history, culture, and contemporary lives of California Indians. Topics include early humans in California, the development of a Spanish, Mexican, and American presence and the effects on the native people. (Offered every year.) 3 credits.

Mythology is linked to cultural perceptions, values and cosmology. This cross-cultural study of differing mythologies enhances students' appreciation of traditions in literature, oral tradition, and cultural views. Areas of study include: theories of classification, deconstruction, symbolism, rhetorical evolution, regional adaptation, influence, and cultural continuity. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits.

ARAB 101 proficiency required for ARAB 102. Students develop beginning level skills in reading, writing and speaking Arabic. Students will study basic grammar and vocabulary and will have listening and speaking practice. Students will strengthen reading and writing skills through different mechanisms including popular media and literary selections while also noting customs and cultures of the Arabic-speaking world. (Offered as needed.) 3, 3 credits.

This is an introductory studio art class providing beginning students with instruction in the basic elements of two-dimensional design and their application. Study includes line, value, balance, shape, color, repetition and rhythm, and overall design. (Offered every semester.) 3 credits.

Emphasizes composition, spatial concerns, color and rendering techniques while encouraging subjective responses to subject matter. Media include pastels, colored pencil, oil sticks, and non-traditional materials. (Offered every semester.) 3 credits.
