    Banner Title: Intro to Health Care Instructors introduce a grouping of fundamental principles, practices, and issues common to many specializations in the health care profession. Topics include basic life support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); basic emergency care, first aid, and triage; vital signs; infection control; and blood and airborne pathogens. Students must pay a $30 supply fee when registering for this course.     Banner Title: Medical Terminology for AHS This course introduces the elements of medical terminology. Instructors place emphasis on building familiarity with medical words through knowledge of roots, prefixes, and suffixes. Topics include origins (roots, prefixes, and suffixes), word building, abbreviations and symbols, terminology related to the human anatomy, reading medical orders and reports, and terminology specific to the students' programs of study.     Banner Title: Cultural Diversity/Health This course is designed to examine the cultural beliefs, values, and attitudes that influence health care delivery systems. The concepts of culture competency and its components are explored, and strategies to appropriate intervention are provided. Models for culturally competent care are presented.     Banner Title: Spanish for Health This course serves as an introduction to the Spanish language and Latino culture as applied to the allied health industry. Topics include introductory conversational Spanish with an emphasis on the allied health industry and on medical terminology vocabulary in the areas of Spanish verbs, nouns, and grammar. Topics also include understanding and ap preciating aspects of Latino culture for more effective management. This course also provides additional concentration on completing physical assessments in Spanish and questioning patients about their health conditions, needs, and concerns.     Banner Title: Art Appreciation This course explores human creativity through the study of the visual arts (architecture, sculpture, and painting) within a cultural and historical context. The course provides a foundation for art appreciation by introducing students to the aesthetic, critical, and technical aspects of the major art forms and media. The course increases students' perceptual awareness and responsiveness to artthrough discussion, critical writing, special projects, and/or in-class experiments with various media.
