This course is the second in a series of rodeo rough stock classes. Students will increase their knowledge at NIRA-sponsored rodeos. Students will demonstrate mental and physical preparation, safety procedures, and event rules. Prerequisites: Instructor's permission required and current NIRA card or permit insurance. This course is designed as an initial preparatory course in rodeo timed events. Students will acquire basic knowledge in the individual events so they can compete effectively at NIRA-spon- sored events. They will demonstrate safety procedures, mechanical consistency, event rules, mental and physical preparation, horse placement techniques, livestock handling procedures and proper equipment. Prerequisites: Instructor's permission required and current NIRA card or permit insurance. (1 lect., 2 lab)

This course is the second course in the series of rodeo timed events classes. Students will increase basic knowledge in the individual events so they can compete effectively at NIRA sponsored events. They will demonstrate a substantial increase in mechanical consistency, an elevated execution of horse placement techniques, improvement in mental and physical preparation, elevated event rule understanding, and improved livestock handling ability. Prerequisites: Instructor's permission required and current NIRA card or permit insurance. (1 lect., 2 lab)

This course will provide a detailed study of the equine hoof, including its structure, function, defects, conditions, care and correction. (2 lect., 2 lab)

This course is a continuation of Farrier Science I and will provide students with an in-depth study of the form and function of a horse's lower leg with emphasis on the hoof. Students will review and utilize various terms of the horseshoeing industry while performing proper normal trimming of the hoof to go barefoot, and while performing normal shoe selection, sizing, preparation of the hoof, and shoeing the hoof properly. This course covers form to function, and how it affects normal conditions and corrective shoeing. Prerequisite: Completion of EQST 1210. (2 lect., 2 lab)

In this advanced farrier science course, students will be working with forge, cold and hot shaping shoes, mapping out hoof, trimming and dressing of the hoof, determine appropriate size and type of shoe, horsemanship, lameness issues, nailing on shoes, and finishing the feet. Prerequisite: Completion of EQST 1810. (2 lect., 2 lab)

This is an advanced course in horse showmanship designed to provide the future equine professional with horse showing experience. The course will cover show preparation, hauling, performance horse care, warm-up strategies, show ring strategies, performance evaluation, and expense tracking. Students will attend a minimum of three preapproved open horse shows. At least one attended show must be out of county. Students must supply their own horse, tack, and transportation for this class. Prerequisite: Completion of EQST 1070 & EQST 1060. (1 lect., 6 lab)

The Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) Standard Certification is a certification from CHA, the International Association for Safety and Education in Group Riding. This course will evaluate the student's teaching riding skills through written tests, safety practices, skills demonstrations, lesson teaching, and interviews with clinic staff. Officials from CHA issue the Standard Certification. A fee for certification is required. Prerequisites: Completion of EQST 2800. (3 lect.)

A continuation of EQST 1270 with emphasis on correct horsemanship skills and safety. A continuation of basic English equitation with emphasis on refinement of basic dressage and jumping skills. The student must supply a horse for this class. (2 lect. 2 lab)
