Designed to provide an overview of the philosophy, history, programming and leadership of outdoor adventure education (OAE),this course will: 1) analyze how OAE has evolved as a medium for individual and group development; 2) familiarize students withthe standard programs of Outward Bound, the National Outdoor Leadership School and special focus on the curriculum of the Wilderness Education Association; 3) examine the theory and practice of leadership in OAE with emphasis on judgment and decision-making; and 4) provide practical lab experiences that will enhance student leadership ability when applied to group dynamics, wilderness tripping logistics and other skills.
