3 Cr. Students will explore the discipline of psychology as a fi eld of study, research, application, and service. In order to gain a perspective on the breadth of the fi eld, students will read a variety of sources, also faculty members and guests will discuss, with students, their areas of expertise, interests, and careers. These activities will help students identify areas in which they may develop expertise. The course will include a weekend retreat designed to build group cohesion, develop interpersonal skills, and explore personal and professional skills in a non-academic setting. Restricted to psychology majors.

4 Cr. This course is an introduction to the study of behavior, cognition, motivation, and emotion. The course should impart reasonable understanding of the fi eld and the ability to follow up on areas of interest. The course includes computer simulations of psychological phenomena and exposure to experimental methods. G8, G9

3 Cr. This course provides an overview of chemical abuse and dependence, examining the impact on society, families, and individuals. Students will be introduced to the scope and nature of the fi eld of chemical dependency, including a historical perspective. Special emphasis will target the Biopsychosocial model of addiction, prevention, family dynamics, special populations, and treatment modalities.

3 Cr. This course will provide a survey of the major theories, research methodology, and research fi ndings focusing on physical, cognitive, language, and social-emotional development, and the contexts that infl uence development. Prerequisite: 100 or 171. (See EDUC 220)

3 Cr. Psychology is the study of behavior and mental processes; this course focuses on the application of the scientifi c method to gain knowledge about behavior and mental processes. This is a skills-based course; the student will develop skills related to: measurement, sampling techniques, research design, descriptive and inferential statistics, information technology and APA format. Prerequisites: 171; MATH 130 or 230.

3 Cr. This course examines signifi cant concepts in the letters and sciences. Students will read seminal works and contemporary commentary. The interdisciplinary emphasis invites students to refl ect upon the timelessness of these ideas throughout history and in their own lives and times. G4, G9

1 Cr. In this continuation of psychology 149, students will develop the expertise required to complete their senior project and portfolio. This course will include a part of the 30 hour experiential learning requirement. Prerequisite: 149.

3 Cr. Human interaction as a function of the social environment. Interpersonal perception, attitudes, motivation, communication and formation of group norms, role theory, socialization, and interaction processes in achieving group goals are explored. Prerequisite: 100 or 171; SOCL 125. G8, G9 (See SOCL 250)

3 Cr. Two hours instruction/two hours lab per week. This course is an introduction to the generic aspects of interviewing in the helping relationships as well as providing opportunity to practice and develop interviewing skills. This course is recommended for any student planning to work within a helping profession.

3 Cr. Two hours instruction/two hours lab per week. This course focuses on the application of assessment and treatment planning to the fi eld of substance abuse. Topics include assessment instruments and procedures, psychosocial interviews, development of behavior treatment goals, record keeping, case management and ethical considerations. Prerequisites: 205; 270 or concurrent enrollment.
