    3 Cr. This fi nal course in entrepreneurship takes an in-depth look at the entrepreneurial process from the formation of the initial idea to the management of a viable business. The "Entrepreneurial Project"will include the preparation of a full business plan for a business of the learner's choosing. Prerequisite: FINA 355.

    3 Cr. This course allows students to more fully develop an understanding of a number of specifi c areas of human resource management. Current and vital areas, such as labor relations, compensation and benefi ts, outsourcing, and training are explored in depth. Students will confer with instructor to identify a selected number of topics to cover in-depth throughout the semester. Prerequisites: 342; BLAW 343.

    3 Cr. This course is a study of the operating decisions required in the production of a good or provision of a service. Quantitative scientifi c management techniques, including decision tree analysis and linear programming, are applied to realistic situations as the operating decisions are analyzed. Special attention is paid to quality issues. Prerequisites: 230, 341; MATH 270.

    3 Cr. A study of individual and group behavior in organizations covering topics such as social styles, personality, work-related attitudes, job satisfaction, motivation, networking, teams, communication, decision-making, leadership and culture. Prerequisite: 341. (See SOCL 448)

    4 Cr. An integrative course stressing the holistic view of organization leadership and management. A study and application of the techniques used to complete strategic audits of industries and companies to assess complex business problems and opportunities and to develop, implement, and control strategies to achieve organizational objectives. Transfer credits are NOT accepted for this course. Prerequisites: substantial completion of required courses within the MGMT or MKTG specializations. Restricted to students with senior standing.

    4 Cr. The fi eld practicum is designed to be completed during the student's junior or senior year. It combines 10-15 hours per week of on-site fi eld experience with one hour of class time weekly. The fi eld experience is with a business of the student's choosing. Selecting a site is a shared responsibility among the learner, career services, and the instructor. Learners accepted into the Field Practicum will be required to attend one to two information sessions during the semester prior to the start of their practicum. The class time is designed to enhance the fi eld experience through discussion, role-play, feedback, and presentations. The goal of the fi eld practicum is to link those skills learned in the classroom over the course of the student's tenure with their experiences in the business world. Those currently employed within their fi eld of study may request to substitute a research project for the practicum. Consent of the School of Business fi eld practicum coordinator required.

    3 Cr. This course is designed for senior undergraduates and/or MBA students. The focus is on developing basic applied research skills so that the learner might conduct action research. Also, this course provides the MBA student with the tools they will need to complete the Integrative Research Project (IRP), a major part of the MBA curriculum. Topics include: formulating a research question, using the library and the Internet for a literature review, planning the project, developing hypotheses to test in the research, doing qualitative and quantitative research, experimental and quasi-experimental designs, statistical tools, and presenting the fi nal product with recommendations for future research. Prerequisite: a statistics course (230 or OMGT 305).

    1-3 Cr. Courses on topics of interest to business students offered on the basis of need, interest, or timeliness. Prerequisites as determined by instructor. Restricted to students with junior standing or higher. May be repeated for credit.

    1-12 Cr. Non-classroom experiences in the fi eld of business. Placements are generally off-campus, and may be full- or parttime, and with or without pay. Credit for experiences must be sought prior to occurance, and learning contracts must be submitted before the end of the fi rst week of the semester. A maximum of 15 credits of 287/487 can be used to meet graduation requirements. See the experiential learning: internship section of this catalog for details. Restricted to students with junior standing or higher. May be repeated for credit. Graded CR/NC.
  • 4.00 Credits

    1-4 Cr. Individual and independent reading, research, and writing under the guidance of a School of Business faculty member. Refer to the academic policy section for independent study policy. A written learning contract must be on fi le in the Offi ce of the Registrar by the end of the fi rst week of classes in the semester in which the course is taken. The contract must provide details of the topic, learning objectives, methods to be used, works to be completed, completion dates, grading criteria, and a prospective bibliography. The learner must get contract approval from the guiding faculty member, his or her academic advisor, and the dean of the School of Business before the contract is fi led with the registrar. May be repeated for credit.
