Prerequisite: BIO 115 This course is a survey of the biology of HIV infection. Topics include the retrovirus life cycle, the impact of HIV on the immune system, viral transmission, diagnosis of HIV and symptoms of AIDS, and epidemiology of the disease. The social and political dimensions of the AIDS epidemic will also be discussed. Students will be expected to present a topic of their choice.

Prerequisite: BIO 115 An introductory consideration of both general and comparative vertebrate physiology. Interactions of the organism with its environment are stressed.

Prerequisite: BIO 164, BIO 264, and GIS 201 or GIS 260 This course offers students leadership opportunities on a wildlife research team. The research questions will pertain to wolves in northern Wisconsin. Students will lead team members in project-based work groups investigating aspects of wolf biology and behavior. Projects will be field-oriented and will require students to travel away from the college to collect data. You will be expected to work with your team in remote settings of northern Wisconsin conducting howling and tracking surveys, as well as investigating wolf movements via radio telemetry.

Prerequisite: BIO 238 and junior standing An examination of the laboratory techniques used to study how higher organisms maintain and express genetic information. Emphasis will be on model organisms and their responses to environmental stimuli; topics will include DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, gene cloning and manipulation, analysis of gene expression, conservation genetics, and analysis of genetic diversity, and bioinformatics. Laboratory only.

Prerequisite: BIO 115 or any GWS course and junior standing This course will be taught in a seminar-style format where students read primary and popular literature in biology, primatology, sociobiology, and feminist literature. We will explore why sex matters and ideas about "scientifically" establisheddifferences across sex, race, and sexuality. Topics will include differences in development of women and men, mate section theories, sexual strategies, beauty, science, sexism, racism, and stereotypes. Liberal Education: Cultural Diversity.

Prerequisite: CHM 110 and BIO 234 Survey of the current techniques in aquatic ecology, including productivity measurements, physical and chemical methods, and taxonomy of local aquatic organisms. Lab and fieldwork are emphasized.

Prerequisite: Biology or Environmental Studies (Natural Sciences) major and senior standing This course is taught in a seminar-style format, using the primary literature as points of discussion. Students will develop a grant proposal on a topic of their interest and five an oral presentation on their proposal. Students may then conduct research based on their proposal by taking more capstone credits.

Prerequisite: MTH 103 This course is a blend of topics from accounting, engineering, management science, and statistics. Business organizations have three basic functions: marketing, finance, and operations. Operations is the management of systems that create goods and services.
