Prerequisite: ECN 220 or ECN 221 This course focuses on sustainable economic development, i.e., the development process which optimizes the long-run, net benefits to humankind. It explores a development path that makes conservation of resources the underpinning of economic development and the welfare of future generations. Special attention will be given to issues pertinent to the local region or area. Liberal Education: Environmental Perspectives.

Prerequisite: MTH 103 or higher level math course and sophomore standing This course explores topics in geometry, rational numbers, and proportional reasoning, as students continue to examine various mathematical processes, such as inductive and deductive reasoning, creating conjectures, constructing justifications, algebraic representations, and problem-solving strategies. Issues and activities in teaching mathematics to children weave throughout the course. Liberal Education: Quantitative Reasoning for elementary education majors only.

Prerequisite: Sophomore standing This course focuses on enhancing reflective skills so that students are able to analyze and interpret data that is collected from different classroom settings. Students initiate their Teaching Portfolio, which will be used throughout the Teacher Education program. This is an essential course for students considering teaching as a career. Field experience: 15 hours.

Prerequisite: Sophomore standing A study of the philosophical, historical, and social foundations of education in Wisconsin and America. Main topics include teaching as a profession, history of American education, the administrative structure of education, legal, political, and economic issues and trends, social class, diversity, and the challenges of equal educational opportunity.

Prerequisite: Junior standing Students will learn to develop curriculum, plan delivery of the curriculum, differentiate instruction, and implement authentic assessment strategies within the context of varied learning styles and multiple intelligences.

Methods for integrating literature across the curriculum and development of content reading skills will be addressed.

A study of methods and materials for effective work in secondary music education including conceptual and philosophical bases for general music and performance curricula.

Prerequisite: Sophomore standing A study of affective pupil development in the context of the middle school. Students will explore group guidance activities, including decision-making and problem solving, group process, interpersonal relations, self-concept, and verbal and non-verbal communications.
