Introduction to the study of societal treatment of individual offenders, including the history and philosophy of punishment and treatment systems, sentencing, imprisonment, probation and parole, restitution, and other alternatives to imprisonment. Internship to gain practical field experience working with an agency in one of the following fields: Criminal Justice, Health Administration, Community Action and Development, and/or Urban or Regional Planning. No more than nine credits applicable to minimum requirement for major. Prerequisites: Internship contract approved by the faculty supervisor and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Sociology 302 and either Sociology 303 or 306.
