This course examines the sociological and historical aspects of sport in American society with the purpose of gaining an understanding of how race, class, gender, ethnicity, politics, and religion can bind Americans in a community of shared values and aspirations. Students will explore the unifying power of sport, as well as how sport serves to reproduce many inequalities present in the larger society. Gaining an understanding of how these issues, and others, interplay with sport is critical for those aspiring to become successful sport coaches, as well as for those who simply wish to gain an understanding of the complex relationship between sport and society (e.g., parents, fans, and sport participants).

The purpose of this course is to introduce and explore motor learning and motor development principles. Particular focus will be on how the application of motor learning and motor development impact the physical education and coaching learning environments.

The purpose of this course is to provide prospective physical education teachers experiences that will lead to skill acquisition, the ability to analyze, diagnose and correct errors in skill performance, the development of skills, drills, and game progressions, and the pedagogical skills needed to teach a variety of field sports (e.g., flag football, soccer, and softball).

The purpose of this course is to provide prospective physical education teachers experiences that will lead to skill acquisition the ability to analyze, diagnose and correct errors in skill performance, the development of skills, drills, and game progressions, and the pedagogical skills needed to teach a variety of court sports (e.g., basketball and volleyball).

The purpose of this course is to provide prospective physical education teachers experiences that will lead to skill acquisition, the ability to analyze, diagnose and correct errors in skill performance, the development of skills, drills, and game progressions, and the pedagogical skills needed to teach a variety of individual sports (e.g., golf, swimming, and track and field).

The purpose of this course is to provide prospective physical education teachers experiences that will lead to skill acquisition, the ability to analyze, diagnose and correct errors in skill performance, the development of skills, drills, and game progressions, and the pedagogical skills needed to teach a variety of racket sports (e.g., badminton, racketball, and tennis/pickleball).

Examine, evaluate and practice aerobic conditioning theories and current practices for the purpose of preparing entry level professionals to select, incorporate, and facilitate appropriate aerobic activities, as well as, design and evaluate the effectiveness of aerobic conditioning programs. Two lecture/labs per week.
