Students learn the basics of labor relations including labor history and law, union structure, bargaining, and arbitration. They also study employee relations including union avoidance, high-performance systems, layoffs and terminations, grievances, workplace investigations, and managing employee-employer relationships.

The day to day work of HR professionals requires perspective and skills in mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution. This experiential course is designed to help students learn, practice, and apply communication skills in these areas.

This course explores strategic decisions that organizations make concerning the flow of goods, services, and information across modern global supply chains. Topics include process flow, operational excellence, ethics and sustainability in supply chains, and supplier selection.

Topics include continuous flow, scientific thinking and the continuous improvement cycle, value stream mapping, root cause analysis, mistake proofing, and creative problem-solving. Examines laws related to employment, labor relations, civil rights, compensation, safety, health, and retirement. Provides experience in dispute resolution techniques in a nonunion employment setting, including negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.

This course provides students with exposure to the international dimensions of HR, including the cultural, economic, political, and legal environments which influence HR and business strategy. It accompanies an international experience during the spring semester. Repeatable for credit.

Provides opportunity for students to pursue special interests under tutorship of the faculty. Prerequisite/Restriction: Approval of faculty member and department head. Repeatable for credit. Check with major department for limitations on number of credits that can be counted for graduation.
