Through emphasis on critical thinking and hypothesis testing, students scientifically evaluate evidence for initial colonization drawn from the fields of archaeology, biological anthropology, genetics, and linguistics. Reviews past and present Indian cultures of greater southwest region. Examines the prehistoric Anasazi, the Pueblos, the canyon and desert peoples, the Utes, and the Navajos. Interprets these cultures in ecological, historic, and political contexts. Cross-listed as: ANTH 4110.
