Includes a survey of rhetorical traditions, principles, and strategies used in informative, persuasive, and ceremonial speeches. May be taken to meet the general education communication requirement.

Emphasis on practical situations related to communication in public and professiional contexts. Recommended for prospective teachers, business leaders, religious leaders and civid leaders. Prerequisite: COMS 1301, 1303 or 2302.

Emphasis on traditional and experiemental approaches to selecting, adapting, ingerpreting and performing in groups and as individuals in a variety of situations for a variety of audience. Prerequisity: COMS 1301, 1303 or 2302,1302, or with the consent of instructor.

Emphasis is on research and analysis of controversial issues, reasoning, use of evidence and appeals, use of effective speaking strategies, and evaluation of persuasive arguments. Recommended for students interested in public issues, students interested in law or public debate. Prerequisite: COMS 1301, or 1303; and 2303, or consent of instructor.

Communication theories and skills needed for success in personal relationships. Emphasis on verbal, nonverbal, and listening skills needed for building and maintaining productive relationships in intimate and social situations such as in friendship and family relatiohships. Prerequisite: COMS 1302, 1303, or 2302; and 3301 or consent of instructor.

Theories, skills, and strategies for presenting, analyzing, and evaluating persuasive messages. Emphasis is on strategies used and effects and influences of a variety of persuasive media including the impact of modern technologies on issues, attitudes, beliefs and values. Emphasis on presenting and evaluating persuasive messages. Prerequisite: COMS 1301 or 1303; 2303; and 3306 or consent of instructor.

Individualized study in specialized topics for advanced students in communication. Emphasis on formulating a proposal, conducting research, designing and organizing a written and oral projects focusing on such areas as conflict management, crisis communication, health communication, aspects of diversity, and rhetorical analysis. Prerequisites: 15 hours of communication including at least 6 hours in upper-level courses or with consent of instructor.

Advanced theories and skills related to specific areas of study in the field of speech communication. Emphasis on practical application of communication concepts and skills resulting in the design, development, and written and oral presentation of a variety of communication projects for a variety of purposes for a variety of audiences. Prerequisite: Completion of all other course requirements for a major or minor in communication or should have completed requirements for teacher certification in communication.

Enhanced personal productivity and problem solving skills using knowledge work tools (spreadsheets, presentation graphics, word processing, Internet and electronic mail); use of integrated software; design and use of small information systems for individuals and groups. Prerequisite: Documented Computer Competency; transcripted course(s), passing the ACAC 0303 examination, or passing ACAC 0303. Examinations available for demonstrated competency-waiver of requirement examination, $20 ; for credit examination (advanced standing), 1/3 tuition.
