ARTH 3385: HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE

The University of Texas at El Paso
This course traces the history of architecture from prehistoric times through the modern era, with particular emphasis on the iconic structures of human civilization that have shaped the building traditions of the European and Asian continents. The focus is on reconstructing as fully as possible the context of major architectural masterpieces and investigating their iconography and symbolic content. In addition to Western monuments, the architecture of China, Japan, Siam and the Indian subcontinent is also explored, as well as the interconnections between Eastern and Western visual culture, and between the Islamic and Judeo-Christian worlds, during the last two millennia. Course fee required.

ARTS 3320: Whole Arts (2-2) The course explores major themes from the visual and performing arts and uncovers arts tools, methods, and resources for teaching and learning. The themes are presented in lectures, activities, and interviews. Creative laboratory sections are held on and off campus. This course provides an inter-arts experiences that address Texas State requirements in the arts for classroom teachers certifying for EC-4. This course is required for the major sequence in the EC-4 degree plan and can also simultaneously fulfill the Visual and Performing Arts requirement for the University Core. Prerequisite: Junior standing required. Course fee required.
