Topics include the following: developmental characteristics of pre-adolescents/adolescents including exceptional learners and students with special needs, a variety of disabilities (Learning Disabled, Emotionally Disabled, Behavior Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, etc.), the creation and purpose of Individual Education Plans, concepts, and forms, as well as the IDEA law, its application and ethical considerations. The course also includes a field component of fifteen hours. Prerequisite: Admitted to the Middle Level Program. Advisor permission required.
