Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge and /or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. The student learns to utilize critical thinking skills to evaluate relevant journal articles and case studies. Various professional organizations are discussed. The value of continuing education and opportunities such education affords will be stressed. The student is introduced to the computer resources available for the field. Prerequisite: HPRS 1391. Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. The student learns how to perform waived tests and aid the technologists in the clinical laboratory. Topics to be addressed include microbiology, hematology, serology and urinalysis, as well as specimen processing. The importance of safety and patient confidentiality is emphasized. The student learns how to screen donors for blood bank donations. Prerequisite: PLAB 1223. Prerequisite or co-requisite: PLAB 1166. (3:2-2).
