In-depth coverage of specialized surgical modalities. Areas covered include endoscopy, microsurgery, therapeutic surgical energies, and other integrated science technologies. Semester hours 1 (1 lec/1 lab)

Orientation to surgical technology theory, surgical pharmacology and anesthesia, technological sciences, and patient care concepts. Semester hours 4 (3 lec/2 lab)

In-depth coverage of perioperative concepts such as aseptic principles and practices, infectious processes, wound healing, and creation and maintenance of the sterile field. Semester hours 4 (3 lec/2 lab)

Emphasis on surgical procedures related to the general, OB/GYN, genitourinary, and orthopedic surgical specialties incorporating instruments, equipment, and supplies required for safe patient care. Emphasis on surgical procedures related to the thoracic, peripheral vascular, plastic/reconstruc- tive, EENT, cardiac and neurological surgical specialties incorporating instruments, equipment, and supplies required for safe patient care. Semester hours 4 (3 lec/2 lab)

A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Semester hours 5 (16 clinical hours/week)

A health-related, work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Semester hours 6 (24 clinical hours/week) Theatre majors are expected to fulfill work assignments in some phase of theatre on each theatre department production (usually two productions per semester).
