Orthopedic assessment of the lower body. Recognition and assessment of athletic injury to the lower body while utilizing evaluation tools such as goniometers, tape measures, refl ex hammers, etc. Corequisite: EXSS 2101. Prerequisite: EXSS 2351.

Orthopedic assessment of the upper body. Recognition and assessment of athletic injury to the upper body while utilizing tools such as goniometers, tape measures, refl ex hammers, etc. Corequisite: EXSS 2102. Prerequisite: EXSS 2350.

A study in the use and misuse of medicines in Athletics. Topics to include drug testing, drug classifi cation, drug vehicles and mode of introduction into body, tolerance, side effects, street drugs, over-the-counter (OTC) versus prescription drugs. Other areas touched upon are dispensing of OTCs, ethical and legal issues and the role of the certifi ed Athletic Trainer.

A study of the responsibilities of facility managers including event planning, security, administration, sales/marketing, fi nance/ budgeting, human resources, legal issues, risk management, operations/maintenance, systems planning, site selection/design, and construction issues. Students are exposed to practical procedures involving applied theory to actual practice in solving facility management dilemmas. Prerequisite: EXSS 2371.

A study of sport function from an economic, political, sociological, and educational perspective. Includes examination of social infl uences regarding mass media, race, gender, and group behavior in relation to sport as a microcosm of society. Prerequisite: EXSS 2371.

An investigation of the various agencies governing sport. Includes an examination of the agencies, their authority, organizational structure, and their function. Prerequisite: EXSS 2371.

A focus on applying the fundamental concepts of marketing, including product, price, public relations, promotions, sales, and advertising in relation to the sport industry. Prerequisite: EXSS 2371.

An examination of core economic concepts and applications within the sport industry including industrial organization, public fi nance, labor relations, non-profi t entities, and economic theory applied to sport manufacturing and service industries, professional and intercollegiate sports, and stadiums/arenas applications. Economic principles studied include micro/macro perspectives, economic growth, economic impact, and competitive strategy. Prerequisite: EXSS 2371.

A survey of the principles that constitute the foundation of sound athletic coaching techniques and management. Special emphasis will be placed on the psychological aspects of coaching and sports performance. Prerequisite: Either EXSS 2340, 2351, or 2371.
