    Course Description: Overview of the various roles of professional nursing within health care system and the roles of the health care team. Identification of how current events, attitudes, behaviors, and technology impact the nursing role and the role of nursing students in the health care setting. This course lends itself to either a blocked or integrated approach. * If a course description in the LCC catalog states that a course must be taken concurrently with another course, those courses may not be taken independently of one another. If a student fails or withdraws from a concurrent course, they must withdraw from the other concurrent course as well. Key Concepts: This course introduces the various roles of professional nursing and teaches strategies for success within the professional nursing program. Prerequisite: College ready.

    Course Description: Study of the concepts and principles necessary to perform intermediate or advanced nursing skills; and demonstrate competence in the performance of nursing procedures. Topics include knowledge, judgement, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Key Concepts: This course provides the student with the development of intermediate nursing skills used in administering care to adult clients and their families. Emphasis is placed on the development of motor skills through the use of the nursing process, scientific rationale, and safety within a legal/ethical framework. * If a course description in the LCC catalog states that a course must be taken concurrently with another course, those courses may not be taken independently of one another. If a student fails or withdraws from a concurrent course, they must withdraw from the other concurrent course as well. Experiences are simulated in the laboratory. Prerequisites: RNSG 1341, 1260, BIOL 2421. *Concurrent with RNSG 1443, 1460. (Prior to 3rd semester courses RNSG 1201, COSC 1300, PSYC 2314).

    Course Description: Study of the laws and regulations related to the provision of safe and effective professional nursing care; attention given to the development of a framework for addressing ethical issues; and topics to include confidentiality, the Nursing Practice Act, professional boundaries, ethics, and health care legislation. Prerequisites: RNSG 1443, RNSG 1460, RNSG 1144, RNSG 1201, COSC 1300, PSYC 2314. SOCI 1301 prior or concurrent.

    Course Description: Introduction to the science of pharmacology with emphasis on the actions, interactions, adverse effects, and nursing implications of each drug classification. Topics include the roles and responsibilities of the nurse in safe administration of medications within a legal/ethical framework. Key Concepts: This course provides the nursing student with the fundamental principles of pharmacology and the implications and responsibilities for the nurse as a provider of care by integrating the nursing process. Prerequisites: RNSG 1341, RNSG 1260, BIOL 2421. Special admission with approval of the A.D.N. Department Chair for LVN graduates, Paramedic graduates, and other health professionals.

    Course Description: A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. * If a course description in the LCC catalog states that a course must be taken concurrently with another course, those courses may not be taken independently of one another. If a student fails or withdraws from a concurrent course, they must withdraw from the other concurrent course as well. Key Concepts: This course introduces the student to basic clinical concepts for the care of adult clients and their families with common medical-surgical disorders in a structured health care setting. There is an emphasis on the application of the nursing process by the nurse in the role of provider and manager of care. The student is provided with the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts learned in RNSG 1341. Prerequisites: RNSG 1309. *Concurrent with RNSG 1205, 1341. BIOL 2421 prior or concurrent.

    Course Description: Overview of nursing and the role of the professional nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession. Topics include knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Key Concepts: This course provides the student with the fundamental principles upon which nursing practice is based for the nurse as a provider, a coordinator and as a member of the profession. Bio-psycho-sociocultural concepts are introduced as a foundation for subsequent nursing courses. Emphasis is placed on basic human needs, communications, safety, the hospital environment, prevention measures and the nursing process. Prerequisites: BIOL 2401, 2402, RNSG 1113, ENGL 1301 and PSYC 2301. *BIOL 2421 prior or concurrent. Concurrent RNSG 1205.
