Theoretical models of strategic learning, cognition, and motivation serve as the conceptual basis for the introduction of college-level student academic strategies. Students use assessment instruments (e.g., learning inventories) to help them identify their own strengths and weaknesses as strategic learners. Students are ultimately expected to integrate and apply the learning skills discussed across their own academic programs and become effective and efficient learners. Students developing these skills should be able to continually draw from the theoretical models they have learned.

Study of the pathogenesis, prognosis, and therapeutic management of diseases/conditions commonly encountered in physical therapy. Learning Outcomes: The student will identify and explain the pathogenesis of selected diseases/conditions relevant to physical therapy; determine aspects of pathophysiology that affect physical therapy treatment; describe the current response to acute physiological change in patient's conditions; and identify pertinent pharmacological information and its impact. A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Learning Outcomes: As outlined in the learning plan, apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all professional coursework to date with a grade of C or better.

Learning Outcomes: This course is designed to provide the student therapist assistant with the basic concepts of orthopedics relating to the musculoskeletal system and arrangement of various conditions and injuries of the joints and regions of the body. This course builds upon the principles of therapeutic exercise acquired in PTHA 2509, and broadens the knowledge base of the student prior to the student's final clinical experience.
