PHYS 1417 is a survey of the natural process at work in the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere of Earth's place in the universe. It is designed to introduce students to astronomy, geology, oceanography and meteorology. It is required for elementary education certification for students transferring to TAMIU. It may also fulfill four of the 8 or 12 hours of science requirements for some degree plans (check with your advisor and/or college of transfer). It is not for students majoring or minoring in science. Fall and Spring. Prerequisites: 12th grade reading level and eligibility for ENGL 1301 and MATH 1314.

This will be accomplished by a cooperative work experience in a university, industrial, medical, or government facility working with trained scientists to solve a research problem in physics. Prerequisites: PHYS 1401 and PHYS 1402 or PHYS 2425 and PHYS 2426.

Topics covered include atomic structure; linear, circular, and simple harmonic motion; forces; Newton's Laws; energy; and thermal concepts. Fall.     CB 4008015403 This course is a continuation of PHYS 2425. This course emphasizes the study of mechanical waves; electrostatics; electromagnetism; DC and AC circuits; electromagnetic waves; optics; and modern physics. Spring. Prerequisites: PHYS 2425 or ENGR 2301 and MATH 2413.; Corequisite: MATH 2414 or approval of the instructor.

    Skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and universal precautions. Includes vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture, and specimen collection on adults, children and infants. Emphasis on infection prevention, proper patient identification, labeling of specimens and quality assurance, specimen handling, processing, and accessioning. Learning Outcomes: The student will demonstrate knowledge of infection control and safety; demonstrate understanding of quality assurance and the importance of specimen collection in the overall patient care system; and demonstrate knowledge of collection equipment, various type of additives used, special precautions necessary, and substances that can interfere in clinical analysis of blood constituents. The student will demonstrate proper techniques to perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on adults, children, and infants; and demonstrate the knowledge of requisitioning, specimen transport, and specimen processing. Co-requisite: MLAB 1201.

    A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Learning Outcomes: As outlined in the learning plan, apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry. Co-requisite: PLAB 1223.

    In-depth coverage in the use of a spreadsheet software focusing on business applications. Students interested in a four-year degree in art may earn half of the necessary art credits during the freshman and sophomore years at Laredo Community College. All art majors must consult an art department advisor prior to registration. The letter grade "C" is the minimum prerequisite for majors and minors continuing studio courses in sequence. Some outstanding work by students may be retained by the college for educational and exhibition purposes.
