Survey of the field of physical therapy including history, scope of practice, roles of physical therapist and physical therapist assistant, and practice settings. Student analysis of personal goals and reasons for selecting the field. Admission policies and processes, including admission interviews. Project required.

This course is designed to help introduce students to the required commitment and responsibilities of being a health professional. It also introduces the student to the various health professions and an understanding of the many aspects to be considered in choosing a career in the health field.

Introduction to Radiography as a health science profession. Includes departmental and hospital organization, ethical and legal issues, confidentiality, various imaging modalities, and responsibilities of the Radiographer. The profession is examined to assist the student in making a commitment to pursue this career and is mandatory prior to the interview process. PREREQUISITES: None.

A course designed to identify potential health and safety risks and methods to avoid injury on the job. Discussion focuses on injury prevention and safe work practices, identification of hazardous exposures found in the workplace, and common strategies to reduce health risks associated with the workplace. This course may not be used to meet the requirements of the A. A. S. , A. S. , or A. A. degree.

Medications - Conversions and Dosages. An introduction to medication dosage calculations, symbols, abbreviations, unit dosing, and system equivalent conversion operations. Emphasis of course is on medication problems involving metric, apothecary, and household measurement conversions necessary for medication administration in nursing and other allied health professions.

A survey of Human Anatomy and Physiology designed for select Allied Health career programs. Body systems, physiological concepts, metabolism and nutrition are discussed using the medical model. The course will not substitute for either BIOL 2010 or BIOL 2020, nor will it satisfy any part of the general education natural science requirement for the Associate of Science degree. Three lecture, two laboratory hours per week.

A study of the uses of coded data and health information in reimbursement and payment systems with an emphasis on electronic systems that are used to assimilate and process claims.

A course designed to develop the entry competencies expected of the Chiropractic Therapy Assistant. Topics covered include anatomy, physiology, patient protection, safety, emergency procedures, professional boundaries training, chiropractic therapy, and rehabilitation techniques.

A course designed to introduce basic entry-level competencies expected of the Chiropractic X-Ray Technologist. Selected topics include: radiation protection, radiation physics, radiographic techniques, position, x-ray quality control, and Tennessee statutes and rules pertaining to the Chiropractic X-Ray Technologist.

This course provides an introduction to the basic skills utilized in data collection, health and physical assessment. The class focus will be on interviewing skills and systematic assessment of the physiological, psychological, sociological, cultural and spiritual health status of adult clients. The course provides the opportunity for application of theoretical knowledge and performance of health assessments with health individuals. PRE or COREQUISITE: BIOL 2020. 3 lecture hours per week.
