It uses critical thinking to provide holistic, safe, individualized care to adults, including health promotion, maintenance, restoration and health teaching.     (1-3 credits) This course is designed as a seminar that will focus on a specialty area of professional nursing practice. Examples may be: Multicultural Nursing, Oncology Nursing, Gerontology Nursing, Cardiopulmonary Nursing, and Hospice Nursing. May be repeated for credit with differenc topics. Offered as needed

    (3 credits)(Restricted to students in the Nursing program) This course is designed to introduce students to transcultural nursing in health care today. Different cultural health and healing practices will be explored. Students will examine their own cultural health practices and compare these healing practices to other culture groups. Students will examine various ways in which transcultural nursing facilitates nurses' knowledge and skill in communicating with and caring for people from diverse cultures. This course may be repeated. Offered as needed

    (6 credits)(Prereq: A grade of 'C' or better in NUR*312) This course builds on the prior coursework and focuses on care of adult clients with acute and chronic health conditions while emphasizing use of clinical judgment to provide safe and evidence-based quality care. NUR 412 has both a didactic and clinical section. Students must meet the requirements of both parts of the course in order to pass the course. Offered as needed Prerequisite:    Take NUR*312; Minimum grade C;

    (6 credits)(Prereq: A grade of 'C' or better in NUR*412, NUR*416, and NUR*424) This course builds on the prior coursework to focus on care of adult clients with acute and complex health problems related to all body systems. Emphasizes preparation for the licensing exam while using clinical judgment to provide safe and evidence-based quality care. NUR*413 has both a didactic and clinical section. Students must meet the requirements of both parts of the course in order to pass the course. Offered as needed Prerequisite:    Take NUR*412 NUR*416 NUR*424(10004); Minimum grade C;

    (3 credits)(Prereq: A grade of 'C' or better in NUR*310) This course covers application of critical thinking skills and nursing concepts in the care of clients with selected mental health problems in a variety of settings. The course includes the study of dynamics of human behavior ranging from normal to extreme. NUR*415 has both a didactic and clinical section. Students must meet the requirements of both parts of the course in order to pass the course. Offered as needed Prerequisite:    Take NUR*310(10646); Minimum grade C;

    (4 credits)(Prereq: A grade of 'C' or better in NUR*312 and EDUC*336 or PSYC*302) This course facilitates the application of clinical judgment in the care of persons during the childbearing years and from birth through adolescence to promote optimal individual health and development at any stage of the health continuum. Content includes math computational skills; basic computer instruction related to the delivery of nursing; assessment and nursing care of the child; nursing care of reproductive health/disorders, pre/intra/postnatal childbearing family. Provides supervised learning experiences in college nursing laboratories and/or cooperating agencies. NUR*416 has both a didactic and clinical section. Students must meet the requirements of both parts of the course in order to pass the course.     (4 credits)(Prereq: A grade of 'C' or better in NUR*301 and NUR*305/L) This course introduces concepts in leadership, management and fellowship as they relate to the role of professional nursing in the sociopolitical healthcare environment. Cost containment and cost effective financial management of human, and material resources is emphasized. Group dynamics, change process, crisis management and the role of quality improvement in professional nursing leadership will be included in this course. Offered as needed Prerequisite:    Take NUR*301 NUR*305(10776) NUR*305L(10777); Minimum grade C;
  • 3.00 Credits

    (3 credits)(Prereq: A grade of 'C' or better in STAT*201/L or POLI*205 or PSYC*225/L) Provides the student with an overview of the research methods commonly used in nursing research. Ethical/legal issues in health care research are discussed. Emphasis is on evaluating current nursing research for application in evidence-based nursing practice.
