Prerequisite: BIO 103 or ANTH 100 or consent of instructorFulfills a course requirement for the Public Health MinorThis course addresses the question: What is public health? with anintroduction to the concepts, principles and practices of public health.Students will examine the historical and current role of public healthinstitutions and the biological, social, behavioral, environmental andcultural determinants of health. An overview of tools used to assess,control and prevent disease will be put into the context of currentpublic health threats and the future of public health.

This practicum course combines a field experiencewith an academic seminar course that meets for 3 hours per week.Potential discussion topics include, but are not limited to, biostatistics,community health, epidemiology, environmental health, global health,health promotion and education, health management, health policyand maternal & child health.
