More complexmethods such as construction, assemblage, and relationships betweenmaterials, as well as more sophisticated processes like casting willalso be studied via related/interrelated exercises. Intermediate sculptural methods will beexplored with a particular emphasis on the relationship of sculpturalmedia to conceptual issues and the individual's creative development.Complex methods of construction, assemblage and mold making willbe introduced.

This coursedevelops a student's knowledge of the uses of color, including itspsychological and expressive properties. Requires solution of morecomplex compositional and spatial problems. All aspects of making a painting from stretching a canvas to understanding the use of oilmediums will be investigated.

    The Intersections program is a series of seminars mandatory toall Visual Arts Majors throughout their tenure at Roger WilliamsUniversity. Held weekly each semester, the program is intended tocreate a forum for discussion amongst students and faculty. Roundtableconversations or presentations by students, faculty and guestartists generate active and lively discussions surrounding issues inthe arts. A student mentor program, intended to build a sense ofcommunity among the visual arts students is a vital component of thisprogram. Required readings or screenings and topics covered will varysemester to semester.

The courseemphasizes the development of critical awareness and judgment. Asstudents experiment with their own choice of imagery they will gainmastery of skills and techniques in various media.

    Prerequisites: Completion of at least 1 Foundations StudioFulfills a course requirement in the Visual Arts Studies: Painting/ Drawing/Printmaking, Photo Digital Media, Film Animation Video and SculptureCore ConcentrationsThis course is designed to introduce the Visual Art student to avariety of media experiences based on faculty members expertiseand interests. The topics include a wide range of possible mediaexplorations in 2 and 3-dimensional art making. The history, craft andcontext of the medium will be discussed. Technical demonstrationsand discussion of how the aesthetic choices associated with themedium affect the content of the students work will be a focus of thisclass.
