This non-clinical course is designed to assist first-year nursing students to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to strengthen academic performance. This course is required, however, after meeting set criteria, the students may be exempt.

This course is designed to enable the student to explore integrative concepts in Nursing and to assist the student int he transition from licensed practical nurse to registered nurse. Students refine and update previous learning in addition to identifying goals for a successful transition to the registered nursing program. Combined with classroom and nursing laboratory experiences, the student learns through applicaiton of concepts. THe student will demonstrate the ability to solve problems through the use of the nursing process with a focus on client assessment and to communicate more effectively.

This course introduces the student to the concepts of nursing, health, individual and learning, that are fundamental to the nusring profession. The following strands are introduced: nursing process, caring, communication, teaching/learning, safe and effective care environment; health promotion and maintenance; psychosocial integrity and physiological integrity.

Emphasis will be on the integral steps required to implement nursing care based on the nursing process, safety standards, physiological and psychosocial needs, and promotion of health. The student will develop a professional attitude of caring and respect for the needs of others

This course expands the concepts of nursing, health, individual and learnin, that are essential to the nursing profession. The currriculum strands: nursing process; caring; communication;teaching/learning; safe and effective care environment; health promotopn and maintenance; psychosocial integrity and physiological integrity are carried forward and applied to individuals with health conditions across the life span.

This course provides opportunities for the students to determonstrate nursing concepts and psychomotor skills in a controlled environment. topics will correlate with NUR 113 emphasis on further accountability in assuming the role of a nurse

This course introduces nurses to the application of compurt-related technology in the health care evironment. The use of web-based technology, search tools, and evaluation criteria for online material are emphasized. Topics include computerized clinical information technology, nursing documnetation withcomputerized systems, legal and ethical aspects, and ways to use information technology to enhance delivery of healthcare.

12.00 Credits
The course begins with an overview of concepts integral to psychosocial nursing. Substance abuse, family violence, stress and adaptation, changing family structures, growth and development, cultural issues, and legal/ethical principles are woven throughout the course focusing on the childbearing and childrearing families and the mental health client. Concepts associated with the general care of the mother and infant, associated high risk conditions, care of the compromised newborn and child, and care of the client with mental health issues are presented. The course enhances the student's skill in the use of therapeutic nurse-patient relationship. Critical thinking in clinical experience is promoted through the use of the nursing process Prerequisite: NUR 103, BIO 320, PSY 207, ENG 106

This course examines the concepts of complex nursing using the nursing process. Content focuses on nursing care and collaborative management in the maintenance, promotion, and restoration of health in individuals experiencing complex alterations in digestion and elimination, gas transport, metabolism, cognition, movement, defense, and protection. Life-threatening multisystem alterations are also discussed. Issues critical to nursing leadership theory, delegation and supervision, time management, chance theory and conflict resolution are introduced. The economic impact of catastrophic and complex chronic illness is considered. Prerequisite: NUR103, BIO320, PSY207, ENG106

4.00 Credits
This course facilitates the transition from student to professional nurse. Clinical placement is planned in accordance with the student's professional interests. The content focuses on professional organizations, legal and ethical issues, economic and political aspects of health care, specific issues related to professional adjustment, and strategies to ease the transition from student the graduate nurse and employee. Various topics are explored though networking, self-reflection, and student projects. Prerequisite: NUR 201, NUR 202
