Students will examine curriculum models from the perspective of education and nursing research. They will analyzt factors that influence program development, curriculum design, develpment, implementation and evaluation.

    Based on a strong foundation in educational theory and practical teaching strategies, this course offers practical suggestions specifically applied to nursing and health education. The most current evidence-based research on effective teaching practices is discussed. This course guides the student through the entire teaching process, from planning learning to conducting classes, applying traditional teaching methods and innovative technology, both in the classroom, the clinical setting and within the context of distance learning platforms.

    Theories and trends that support the use of merging and emerging technologies for the enhancement of teaching and learning are explored. The focus is on assisting educators to gain skills in choosing appropriate instructional technologies to enhance learning. Learning variables, the environmental context, financial/political issues and the influence of those variables on technologies are examined. The evaluation and impact of current teaching on the delivery of education are examined along with strategies for considering/anticipating future technologies to meet educational needs. Prerequisite: Completion of the MSN Core Curriculum

    This course provides an overview of evaluation strategies. Participants will develop evaluation skills emphasizing unit, course and program outlines. Models and tools for assessing, evaluating and validating learning will be presented. Teaching will be frames as a continuous improvement process. Prerequisites: Completion of MSN Core Curriculum.

    This capstone course focuses on the integration and application of major concepts covered throughout the graduate nursing program and assists in preparation for the comprehensive evaluation. Using a combination approach of seminar and precepted clinical experience, students synthesize and apply previously learned leadership and education principles to a specific setting and discuss theory practice disjunctions. One hundred five precepted clinical hours are required. In addition,students are also epected to completeand reflect on the total program requirement of 20 hours of service learning experience. Prerequisite: Completion oF MSN Core Curriculum and MSN nursing educaiton courses.

    This course helps the students to review and master the basic concepts of mathematics, solving for X and ratio and proportion. Algebraic principles are utilized to solve for X and in the calculation of ratio and proportion. The principles of pharmacology and safe drug administration are also covered. An overview of major drug classification is taught. Prerequisite: NUR 099 Corequisite: NUR 101

    This course introduces the student to nursing history and various roles of the nurse. Basic concepts and theories essential to nursing practice, i.e., safety, human need theory, communication, nutrition and the infectious process, are addressed they relate to nursing science and the wellness continuum. Legal, ethical and cultural implications for nursing actions are addressed as foundational to all nursing practice. The Nursing Process is introduced as a critical thinking tool. The chemistry of fluid and electrolytes is introduced and applied to normal and abnormal functioning. Basic alterations in digestion and elimination, endocrine, and hepatic functions are taught along with the nursing responsibilities for care of these patients.     The course begins with a review of the principles of algebraic calculations. Pediatric medication administration and dosage calculation are covered. Commonly used critical care drugs and the algebraic calculations necessary for safe administration are introduced along with the nursing implications. This course is offered as a self-paced module or a traditional classroom format. Students elect the format of their choice. Prerequisite: NUR100, 101 Corequisite NUR103, BIO252

    This required non-clinical nursing course is designed to assist the student in application of the nursing process as a method for problem solving. It will assist the student to use study skills, test-taking strategies and time-managmement to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for academic success and life-long learning.
