The course explores changes in both the content of the mathematics curriculum and the methodologies employed in teaching that content. Students will examine the goals, materials, and methodologies most likely to achieve those goals. Prerequisite: Senior Standing

    This course is required for prospective teachers seeking the Provisional Adolescent License. This course provides students with a survey of the methods and materials for teaching language arts. It includes the areas of grammar and usage, spelling, handwriting, composition, dramatics, and speaking. It shows students how reading ability is built solidly upon the other language arts of listening, speaking, and writing. The Ohio State Curriculum for language arts will be utilized in setting instructional objectives and in designing lesson plans. Prerequisite: Senior Standing

    This course provides the framework for students to follow the state model for science instruction. Strategies for translating Ohio's science competency program goals into instructional objectives will be developed. Contemporary research findings related to the teaching of science will be the basis of instruction for the course. It involves the meaning of science, learning approaches, systems of science, investigations pertinent to the needs of society and technology. The integration of science content will be included. Problem solving strategies will be stressed. Prerequisite: Senior Standing

    This course is required for prospective teachers seeking the Provisional Middle Childhood and/or Adolescent License. The course is designed to prepare the middle grades and/or the high school social studies teacher. Attention is given to citizenship education, the world as a global community, the important role of values in guiding human behavior, and individual differences among learners. Additionally, the course examines the nature, development, purpose, and value of social studies, with emphasis on methods and techniques of instruction, curriculum reorganization, and evaluation. Prerequisite: Senior Standing

    This course is required for prospective teachers seeking the Provisional Adolescent License with a content concentration in mathematics. Through experience as members of a learning community, students will explore mathematical processes and reasoning, engage in problem solving, explore content-related instructional strategies, and examine the current content mandated in the Ohio Competency-Based Mathematics Model. Prerequisite: Senior Standing

    Under special circumstances, undergraduate students may register for special topics to be offered in workshop format. These course may not be applied toward degree requirements, but may serve as elective hours toward graduation.

    The professional growth and development practicum is designed to meet the student teaching requirements for the Provisional Early Childhood License. The practicum has two components; the student teaching experience and a weekly seminar. Students teaching is an in-depth clinical laboratory experience that provides opportunities to observe, analyze, plan, and practice teaching methods in a school setting. The experience enables the novice teacher to move through stages of increased responsibilities under the guidance and with the support of a cooperating teacher and a university supervisor. The seminar provides a place where students can reflect on their development as professionals. The seminar will also deal with developing skills to become a reflective practitioner. Additionally, students will complete a personal portfolio in which they will document academic/professional skills, classroom organization, and teacher development, and include a personal teaching philosophy. Finally, topics discussed in the seminar will bear a direct relationship to the requirements of Praxis III. Prerequisite: Completion of all program and Praxis II requirements

Students will complete a personal portfolio in which they will document academic/professional skills, classroom organization, and teacher development, and include a personal teaching philosophy.
