    This course deals with basic concepts of pharmacology. The pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of various classes of therapeutic agents are discussed. Toxicologic aspects and drug/ food interactions receive due consideration. The rational of a particular drug's usage in various disease states is explored. A primary focus is the integration of pharmacologic concepts into the nursing process. Open to upper level Nursing majors and RNs.

    This course will introduce the learner to the varied definitions and classifications constituting the categories of exceptional children. Each subgroup of exceptionality will be reviewed in terms of its etiology, diagnosis and remediation. As a result of this course, learners will be sensitized to the educational programmming of exceptional children as well as exceptional childrens' rights in Pennsylvania and the U.S. Health-related issues and concerns will be identified and discussed. Open to all students.

    This course provides a basic foundation in leadership and management needed by the practicing professional nurse. The philosophy underlying the curse content and process is wholistic within an open system framework. Learners will be sensitized to a participative style of leadership and management that recognizes and respects the rights and needs of all people in nursing leadership-management situations. The relationship between the study of leadership and management and the current and projected changes in nursing will be studied for relevancy and applicability. Open to all nursing major students and RNs.

    This course focuses on identification of homeodynamic alterations of illness and effects on nursing practice. Biochemical processes leading to alteration of body structure and function are analyzed and select health interventions are reviewed. Open to junior or senior Nursing majors and others with special permission of instructor.

    This course is designed to provide a theoretical basis for the beginning practitioner in the care of a client with multi-system failure. It will assist the student in the application of cognitive skills that enable her/him to use appropriate judgment in establishment of priorities of care, the rapid formation of valid decisions, and the accurate evaluation of client outcomes. The student will have the opportunity to apply theory to practice while working with clinical specialists in a critical care setting of their choosing. OPEN TO SENIOR LEVEL NURSING MAJORS ONLY.

    Neumann University periodically offers Special Topics courses in Nursing [NUR] that reflect specific topics of study which are not part of the standard University curriculum. Special Topics courses in Nursing that are numbered at the 126/226 level are generally open to all students. Courses at the 326 level are specifically designed for students at either the junior or senior level, while courses at the 426 level are only open to students with senior standing. For any given semester, course title(s) and content area(s), as well as any specified prerequisites, are published during the preceding semester. Permission of the instructor may also be required before a student can register for any Special Topics course.

    This required, pre-major course introduces the history and evolution of nursing as a profession. The student explores professional values, ethics, and the law regulating nursing practice. Basic health promotion principles are examined. Steps of the nursing process and concepts of the Neuman Systems Model are defined. Strategies to promote successful transition to the nursing student role are emphasized. Prerequisites: BIO 106/116, BIO 205/215, BIO 206/216, CHEM 101/111, ENG 101, ENG 102, PSYCH 101, and SOC 101.
