Students participate in and are exposed to the daily routines of the blood bank, serology, urinalysis, microbiology, hematology, and clinical chemistry laboratories. Students are also introduced to laboratory math, study computer applications in the clinical laboratory, and participate in direct patient contact as part of a phlebotomy team. Prerequisites: BIO 355/365, 420/425, 430/435, 440/445, and 470/475.

Students plan, compose, and revise a variety of documents with an emphasis on style, organization, and audience analysis. The role of technology is also explored, as is the importance of face-to-face nonverbal communication. Through the semester, students prepare and deliver individual and team presentations and learn effective multi-media presentation skills.
