This is a university-supervised student-teaching experience in two separate educational settings to provide both pre-k-8 and 9-12 classroom experience. It involves observation and teaching general and either instrumental or vocal/choral music under the guidance of a mentor teacher and university supervisor, five full days per week for one semester. It is required for multi-age teaching licensure in music.

This is a university-supervised student-teaching experience in a state-approved special education program serving students with mild/moderate disabilities, five days a week for one semester observing and teaching under the guidance of a mentor teacher; it includes a seminar. If EST 377 was completed in an elementary setting, then EST 487 must be completed in a secondary setting. If EST 377 was completed in a secondary setting, then EST 487 must be completed in an elementary setting. Successful completion requires demonstration of competencies necessary for licensure as a Mild/Moderate Intervention Specialist.

    Prerequisites: Prior online application to the Office of Field Services, successful completion of Portfolio Checkpoint #3, course prerequisites listed in checklist including: EST 378 with a grade of B or higher; all professional coursework; 2.50 cumulative GPA; and 2.75 professional GPA. This is a university-supervised student-teaching experience in two separate state-approved special education programs: one for students with intellectual or multiple disabilities, and one for students with emotional disturbance. It involves five days a week for one semester observing and teaching under a mentor teacher's direction; it includes a seminar. Successful completion requires demonstration of competencies necessary for licensure as a Moderate/Intensive Intervention Specialist.

EDB 400 may be taken before or concurrently with student teaching. This course involves five full days a week for one semester in a secondary school classroom observing and teaching under the direction of a mentor teacher and a university supervisor; it includes a seminar. The course is required for secondary teaching license.
  • 1.00 - 4.00 Credits

    Prerequisite: May require permission of instructor. This is an opportunity to explore in depth, with a group having similar interest, a topic of a special nature; individual and group work in the classroom, library, or community under the direct supervision of at least one faculty member and other resource persons as necessary. In many instances, the topic explored may be under consideration as a new course or program to assure student participation in this process and will be included in the seminar title. It may be repeated for a maximum of nine hours.
  • 1.00 - 4.00 Credits

    Prerequisites: Permission of instructor and department chairperson. This is an independent project in a selected area of education. It involves approval by and arrangements made with permission of the supervising instructor and the department chairperson. Independent study hours may not exceed six hours in a degree program.

    Prerequisites: Prior application, Approval of the Office of Field Services, and EUT 315 or EUT 317. The purpose of student teaching is to assist participants in making the transition from a college student to a classroom teacher. Initially, it is important for to observe and become oriented to the school building, students, and mentor teacher. Participants will quickly be given increased responsibility for the classroom with the goal of assuming the role of teacher from the start to the end of the school day for the majority of the grading period of the placement.
