3 HOURS Students will explore theories and models of second language acquisition (SLA). They will learn about the emotional, social, and intellectual implications of the process of learning a second language in an academic environment. Students will analyze and compare rst and second language acquisition ad apply strategies related to SLA in cross-cultural academic and social settings. (Summer)

2 HOURS The course is designed to provide a practicum/classroom experience in an ESL setting. Students will observe, teach, and work closely with a teacher(s) as well as with students from diverse primary language backgrounds. (Fall, Spring)

3 HOURS A study of the curriculum, methods, materials, trends and philosophy in the teaching of speech, drama, language, and literature (with related experiences). ENGL 490 must be successfully completed prior to student teaching. (Fall, odd years)

1 HOUR This course will assist the student developing the digital portfolio used to assess the student's completion of the VCSU requirements for Abilities and Skills. The course will address both technical application and content. (Fall)

A course designed to give the student an opportunity to apply classroom learning to an on-the-job work experience. Internship positions may be anywhere (geographically). The positions must be related to the student's major or minor course of study. Internship credit is granted in a range of three to twelve credits per semester, and may be repeated up to a maximum of 24 hours. Application is made through Career Services. Prerequisites: the student should be of junior or senior standing, but should apply while a sophomore; cumulative grade point average of 2.50. S/U grading only. (Fall, Spring, Summer)
