This introductory course in human geography meets the current NDUS general education requirements for social sciences and it qualifies for the institution's world cultures course status. It focuses upon concepts, models and applications of contemporary human geography to the study of the cultural landscape at scales ranging from the local through global. The spatial approach is used to discover geographical perspec- tives on population, migration, language, religion, folk and popular culture, economic systems, political systems, rural and urban settlement, land use planning, tourism and environmental issues. (3 cr)

Designed specifically to foster a non- geography major's interest and understanding about the role of people in shaping the cultural landscape of the United States and Canada over time. Special emphasis given to comparing regional cultural landscapes only of Canada and the United States with respect to issues of population, migration, ethnicity, political systems, economic systems, urban-rural distributions, and global change. (3 cr)

Introduction to the dynamics of the earth, including volcanism, earthquakes, rivers, erosion and landslides, glaciers, winds and waves, and the processes involved. Included is study and identification of minerals, rocks, and geological maps. Includes three hours of laboratory per week. (4 cr)
