In-depth study of the management of a Novell network including file management, user accounts, security, printing, desktop management, installation of the network operating system. Course includes lecture and lab which helps students prepare for the Certified Novell Administrator Certification Exam. Prerequisites: CSCI 101, CIS 265, or by special permission of instructor. Students gain a higher level of network management skills and strategies necessary to administer a local area network. Students will learn how to install a network operating system, perform appropriate procedures to prevent and recover from problems, how to analyze and improve network performance, multiple protocol support, advantages and considerations for using various utilities and functions, and advanced printing capabilities. Students will also be exposed to other network operating systems. (3 cr)

Introduction to concepts of communications and data transmission, communication hardware and protocols, communication channels, media, modems, communication software, and the introduction to, performance and management of computer networks. Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and networking technologies concepts such as Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) layers, protocol suites, and network services covered. Advanced coverage of network management. Students gain a higher level of network management skills and strategies necessary to administer a local area network. The course includes lecture and lab activities which help students prepare for the Server+ Certification Exam. Prerequisites: CIS 222, CIS 224 or CIS 244. (3 cr)

In-depth study of the management of a network server including coverage of installation, role of the system administrator, TCP/IP in detail, managing computers on a network, network server functions, network server applications, scripts, configuration, network troubleshooting, privacy and security, physical and local system security, kernel and networking security. First half of the first level of a four-part series on computer networking. Participants learn current and emerging networking technology. Course covers safety, networking terminology and protocols, network standards, Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), OSI, cabling, router configuration, typologies, IP addressing, and other general networking information. Successful completion of CIS 265 A&B, and 266 A&B will prepare the student to take the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Intro Certification (2 cr)
