Observation and guidance of children's behavior emphasized. Students become acquainted with career opportunities in child development and education. Field experiences in the community include recreation/ sports programs, preschool, kindergarten, and elementary classrooms, special education programs, childcare programs at a day care center or family day care home, or private nursery school. Prerequisite: CHLD 123. (7 cr)

This course guides students through the best practice process in providing quality care for infants and toddlers involving the knowledge of the sequence of development in the physical, intellectual, language, social and emotional areas. Involves weekly participation in the routine of a child care facility and development of activities. (4 cr)

Includes the study of various models of Early Childhood Program Management. Students will develop a business plan including job descriptions, personnel policies, budget, record keeping, advertising, facility design, and employee evaluation. Involves weekly participation in the management of an early childhood facility. (3 cr)

Social and emotional development of children 0 to 8 years of age is examined as a basis for understanding and working with children in early care and educational settings. Involves application of guidance principles in a laboratory setting. (3 cr)

The day-to-day experiences and responsibilities of a child care provider. This course will focus on providing a safe, healthy, learning environment, physical and cognitive development, and communication. The student will plan, implement, and evaluate activities appropriate to the developmental level of the children at the work site. The student may choose to complete requirements for any of the following options: Vocational Certificate, Associate of Applied Science Degree, Child Development Associate Credential, or Professional Nanny Training. (5 cr)

Basic understanding of the components of a computer and how these components work together for students not majoring in Information Technology. Hands-on training in the Windows environment, word processing, spreadsheet applications, Internet, and e-mail communication. (3 cr)

Practice of skills required to construct = fall semester = spring semester = summer semester = online course databases to be used for data analysis and reporting. Appreciation of in-depth concepts and features of database management software and the types of applications adaptable to this software. Students will take the Access MOS Certification Exam at the end of the semester. (3 cr)
