Students will be encouraged to use a wide range of traditional and non-traditional art materials and will learn many different collage techniques through classroom demonstrations. A comprehensive historical overview of collage will be given through a series of lectures and presentations. Students will keep a collaged journal/sketchbook as a tool for self-discovery, exploration of materials and to document their creative process. This course is planned to prepare students for an employment search for the Internship experience. The skills attained will assist with any professional job search. Internship takes place in the summer between the junior and senior years. The 240 hour, six week experience may take place in a broad range of situations from print design studios, woven design studios, craftsmen apprenticeships, museum textile collections, and textile showrooms. The course prepares the student to write her resume, compose cover letters, prepare her portfolio, and conduct a job search. Guest speakers and guests from the field will acquaint students with career possibilities and professional expectations.

The emphasis will be on the student developing an individual project in digital print design for either the apparel or homefurnishing markets. Students will utilize original hand drawn images, painted images, as well as photographic images which will be scanned and manipulated to create textile designs, coordinates and color ways. Student work will reflect current trends in the marketplace. Creativity and professional portfolio skills will be emphasized.
