    This one semester 3D Sculpture elective course is an introduction to the principles of welding steel, cutting, and fabrication processes both hot and cold. Students will be taught safe working practices in relation to welding and fabrication processes and machinery. The welding processes that will be employed are oxy/acetylene gas welding and cutting, electric metal arc tungsten inert gas, spot welding. Students will be expected through the use of ferrous metal to find ways of expressing themselves as artist and to investigate spatial formal, context issues and be able to verbalize their ideas within the concept of an appreciation of the value of critical evaluation of works of art. Instruction will be given in ways of creating three-dimensional forms in metal solid and hollow as a way of exploring the aesthetic and structural potential of ferrous materials.     The course objectives are to acquire the skills and knowledge to translate the human form into the sculptural form. Emphasis is placed upon developing observation and modeling skills to manipulate clay upon an armature to produce free standing sculptural figures. Mold making will be taught as a method of translating the figures produced into a different medium. The main methods that will be taught are piece molding and waste molding alongside an introduction to the techniques of making flexible molds in alginate or silicone rubber. There will then follow an introduction into the various ways in which a surface treatment can be applied to the finished piece. An introduction will be given to the ideas traditions and concepts as they pertain to the figure. Class critiques are designed to introduce vocabulary and explore concepts specific to sculpture.     Topics in Contemporary Sculpture will explore contemporary sculpture practice through ideas. The course is a studio course with lectures, readings, demonstrations and assigned problems. Lectures and readings will address issues in both 20th and 21st century sculpture. Studio problems are intended to encourage a personal understanding of thinking sculpturally and realizing the ideas generated. Satisfies: Studio Elective

    A wood sculpture experience beyond that offered in the introductory class. Projects are designed with concern for a students particular interest in consultation with the instructor. It is expected that the work from this class would demonstrate a higher level of skill and expertise in its concepts, production and finish. Satisfies: Studio Elective

    A metal sculpture experience beyond that offered in the introductory course. Projects are designed with concern for a student's particular interest in close consultation with instructor expected that the work produced in this section would at a significantly higher level of expertise. Satisfies: Studio Elective

    This course is designed to build directly upon the introductory course with particular concern for the student ? interests. This to be achieved by consultation with the instructor in order to develop and expand on her sensibilities and to refine her skills. This course can also be used as an opportunity to study in depth a specific aspect of the figure as it relates to form. This course can be repeated twice for higher levels of credit. Satisfies: Studio Elective

    This advance course will investigate contemporary contextual issues in metal sculpture production. Artists who use fabrication, welding and forging processes and techniques as a major element in their work will be the starting point. It is expected that students will demonstrate a high level of conceptual and technical expertise. Satisfies: Studio Elective

    Study the interrelationship between population, resources, geography and technology, and the factual background for environmental problems as they exist today.

    An introduction to the Spanish language, this course emphasizes the basics of speaking, reading and writing in Spanish. Satisfies: Liberal Arts elective requirement.
