The course will look at the origins of the war as well as at the effects of the war on domestic, social and political issues in the United States.

Lec. 2 Lab. 2 Credit 3 This course is designed to assist students in understanding the complexities of current insurance procedures encountered in today's medical facilities. The student will be familiarized with claims submission for programs such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medicaid, Medicare, CHAMPUS/CHAMPVA, and Worker's Compensation. A comprehensive unit on CPT Procedural Coding as well as ICD- 9-CM Diagnostic Coding is incorporated into the course. Managed health care is explored in depth. Prerequisite or Corequisite: HSC- 114 and BIO-163.

Lec. 2 Lab. 2 Credit 3 This course offers training in ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS coding for hospitals, physician offices, ambulatory care centers, and specialty clinics. Accurate coding is significant in receiving maximum payment for medical services, and all medical facilities must employ individual(s) who are proficient in coding. Prerequisites: HSC-114, MAP-145, MAP-141, HIT-292, BIO-163. Corequisite: MAP-615.

Lec. 1 Lab. 2 Credit 2 This course focuses on billing, collection practices and reimbursement guidelines, including the audit and appeals process in medical facilities. The student will also learn about credit laws and how they affect a medical practice, how to execute formulas used to analyze accounts receivable and determine the financial status of a medical practice. Prerequisites: HSC-114, MAP-145, BIO-163. Corequisite: MAP-141.

Lec. 0 Lab. 10 Credit 2.5 The student will be placed in a predetermined medical facility and work under the supervision of a health information management supervisor and the course instructor. Learning experiences will be provided for the student in routine health information applications. Prerequisite: Completion of all program course work with a grade of C or above.
