This course will introduce students to the basic questions that concern religious thinkers, including: the problem of evil, miracles, immortality, proofs of God's existence, unity and diversity in religions, the relationship of faith and reason, etc. The works of some of the key thinkers in the philosophy of religion will be read in addition to the general survey of the subject.

The course will provide an introduction to research methodology and a basic framework to critically evaluate social and behavioral science research. You will be exposed to and tested on the major concepts and methods for generating hypotheses and designing a multi-measure study. This course should enable you to evaluate more critically the claims of "experts" in the popular press as well as in the scientific literature.
