An exploration of the American Revolution and the formation of the United States, with some analysis of the results for the political, social, and cultural life of the new nation. Three hours credit. Fall.

Emphasis will be placed upon the changing role of the United States in world affairs, especially its emergence during the post-Civil War era as an international power. Three hours credit. Prerequisites: HST 205 and 206.

Themes will include origins of the revolution, the creation of republican institutions, the fall of the French monarchy, the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte and his impact on Europe. Three hours credit. Prerequisite: HST 101 or HST 102.
