    This course is designed to provide the students with the opportunity of intensive study and understanding of their instrument through analytical and musical demonstration of works of broad stylistic range. The class will offer performance and teaching methods through discussion and listening to compositions that exemplify different idioms and forms, studying the rhythmic, melodic and harmonic characteristics of each work and considering the specific historical context. An analysis of the principles, methods and practices currently used in the teaching of each specific instrument will also be offered as part of the development of a professional performer and successful teacher.     This course is a concert band performing ensemble. The University Band program is a Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. The Symphonic Band performs of a wide variety of wind band literature: standard repertoire published compositions, and selections from festival lists. The Wind Ensemble is comprised of the top wind, brass, and percussion students from the symphonic band program. This course is repeatable for credit, including in the same semester, up to 99 times.

    This course is a Marching Band program. The University Marching Band (known as the Kutztown University Marching Unit) is offered during the fall semester. The Marching Unit performs of a wide variety of music for performance in the stands as well as a diversified musical repertoire with coordinated drill design at all home and selected away football games. The schedule also includes performances at parades, exhibition performances, and other special events. This course is repeatable for credit, including in the same semester, up to 99 times.

    Choir is a study of the development of vocal technique and vocal performance skills in an ensemble setting, resulting in artistic and aesthetic experiences through the medium of choral music. This course is repeatable for credit, including in the same semester, up to 99 times.

    University Orchestra will rehearse and perform the instrumental music literature of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, including genres such as the overture, suite symphony, concerto, as well as music from ballet. In addition, there will be opportunities to experience various forms of vocal literature, such as oratorio, cantata, opera, mass, as well as music from musical theatre. Formal concerts will take place each semester, with additional performances such as children's concerts and musical theatre productions. This course is repeatable for credit, including in the same semester, up to 99 times.

    The New Music Ensemble provides students with the opportunity to perform experimental and important twentieth and twenty-first century repertoire. It allows the student to study, from a performance perspective, historically important works of the twentieth century, and deepens the students understanding of current trends in contemporary music. The course develops skills in improvisation, extended techniques, analysis and interpretation, and knowledge of the relationship between world music and contemporary music. No experience with new music is mandatory for participation, but all participants will be held to the highest possible performance standards. This course is repeatable for credit, including in the same semester, up to 99 times.

    Jazz Orchestra is a music ensemble which studies and presents a variety of jazz styles including representative music from 1940 to the present. Students participating in the band gain both ensemble and solo experience, the latter frequently through improvisation. Regular rehearsals are scheduled and culminate in various performances on and off campus. Audition is required. This course is repeatable for credit, including in the same semester, up to 99 times.
